What is Double Cleansing?

Hello K-Beauts,

The Double Cleanse method can be a little confusing to wrap your head around, especially if you are new to the skincare world. “Why do I need to cleanse my skin twice?” you ask. “Isn’t one cleanse enough?” We’ve answered all your questions below.

The Korean Double Cleanse method has become hugely popular over the last few years in the Western World because of the benefits it delivers to your skin.

So, what is Double Cleansing? The Double Cleanse involves cleansing your face in two steps: 1. Oil Based Cleanse and 2. Water Based Cleanse. Essentially the Oil Cleanse is lifting the dirt from your skin and the Water Cleanse is wiping the dirt away.

Oil Cleansing

Oil based cleansers come in two forms - Liquid and Solid. Both forms deliver the same results, it’s really just up to personal preference what type you use. Personally, I really enjoy a solid oil (Balm) cleanser as they tend to be a little thicker and creamier in consistency. One of my favorites is The Balina Co. Clean It Zero Balm Cleanser, It easily melts off all my makeup, even stubborn waterproof mascara and it works without stripping my skin of it's natural oils.

As well as removing makeup, oil cleansers will draw out other impurities from the skin such as sebum, spf and pollutions. *Important* If you have oily or acne prone skin, please do not be afraid to use oil cleansers. Remember: Oil attracts oil, so oil cleansers will lift access sebum (oil) from your skin.

Water Cleansing

The second step is to use a Water Based Cleanser. These can come in many forms such as foam cleansers, cream cleansers etc. The Water Cleanse will remove water based debris such as sweat and dirt. My favorite Water Cleanser the moment has to be The Hera Purifying Cleansing Water,  Along with affectivly removing any access makeup left after my oil cleanse, the Hera Purifying Cleasing Water is incredibly gentle to use on sensitive skin and around the delicate eye area. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated and does not leave my skin feeling tight or irritated.

The Double Cleanse will truly transform your skin if you incorporate it into your daily routine. I recommend using the Double Cleanse Method as a part of your evening routine, I don’t feel it’s always necessary in the morning as you have removed all makeup the night before (well, I sure hope so! :) ) and a single Water Cleanse is perfect for your morning cleanse.
